Research peptides, longevity clinics

A payment gateway for peptides and longevity clinics.

OpenGate is a payment gateway for research peptide sellers and longevity clinics that need a merchant account mainstream processors will not open. A research-use catalog and a prescribing clinic are different files, and each goes to a different kind of acquirer. We read the catalog, the labeling and the claims first, then route the file to the acquirer type that fits the model.

Why processors refuse

Why mainstream PSPs refuse peptides and longevity

The sector spans two very different businesses: research chemical sellers and licensed clinics prescribing compounded products. Processors refuse both because they cannot tell which is which, and because marketing claims decide legality more than the molecule does.

  1. Research-use boundaries

Many peptides are sold for laboratory research only and are not approved for human consumption. A seller whose marketing drifts toward human use turns a research product into an unapproved drug.

    How OpenGate handles it

We read the positioning: research-use labeling, buyer restrictions and the absence of human-use claims. Sellers that hold the research boundary can be placed; sellers that blur it are declined with reasons.

  2. Claims discipline

Claims about muscle growth, weight loss or longevity transform a gray-market product into a regulatory target, and the processor's brand rides along.

    How OpenGate handles it

Product pages and funnels are reviewed for claims before activation, the same check we run on nutraceuticals. Clean labeling is the difference between placement and decline.

  3. Enforcement exposure

SARMs and similar compounds attract regulator warning letters when marketed for human use, which makes banks treat the whole category as radioactive. The card schemes hold the acquirer responsible for unlawful drug sales on its merchants' sites, so one bad product page becomes the bank's problem.

    How OpenGate handles it

We ask exactly what the catalog contains and how it is labeled. Files that stay inside research-use rules can place with acquirers that accept the category; enforcement-exposed models do not.

  4. Clinic versus retail confusion

Longevity clinics prescribe through licensed providers and compounding pharmacies, a legitimate model that gets rejected by processors that only see the word peptide.

    How OpenGate handles it

The clinic model is underwritten on its own terms: provider licenses, prescribing workflow and pharmacy relationships. That is a different file from a research chemical shop, and it goes to a different acquirer.

  5. Chargeback and subscription risk

Membership plans, telehealth consultations and refill programs create the same dispute patterns as any continuity business, layered on a sector banks already mistrust.

    How OpenGate handles it

Recurring flows are reviewed like subscriptions, reserves are sized to the model, and consultation records support disputes when patients claim they never authorized the charge. Clean cancellation flows do the heavy lifting, because many disputes in this sector start with a membership the patient meant to cancel.

How we underwrite peptide and longevity clinic merchant accounts

The first question is which business you are: a research chemical seller, a clinic, or something in between. The documents differ, and so does the acquirer.

Corporate registration

Certificate of incorporation, a current register extract and identity documents for directors and beneficial owners. The acquirer expects this core set from every merchant.

Provider licenses

For clinics: medical licenses and prescribing authorizations for the providers involved. Required at onboarding.

Compounding pharmacy records

For clinics: the pharmacy relationships that fill prescriptions, with licensing documentation. Some acquirers also ask for a third-party certification such as LegitScript where prescription products are sold.

Product catalog and labeling

The exact products, with labels, intended use and the certificates of analysis you hold. Evaluated before activation against research-use boundaries.

Marketing and claims review

Product pages, funnels and ads, checked for human-use or therapeutic claims.

Processing history

Three to six months of statements with refund and chargeback data, if you have processed before.

Payment methods

Payment methods for peptides and longevity

Research sales and clinic billing need different rails, and the offer matches the model.

See every capability
  • Cards (Visa/Mastercard)

Core acceptance through acquirers that underwrite research products and telehealth clinics.

  • 3DS2 routing

Authentication on new patients and higher-value orders, shifting liability on unauthorized-use disputes.

  • Recurring billing

Tokenized card-on-file for membership and refill plans, with scheme-compliant mandates.

  • Pay-by-link

Invoice links for consultations and lab panels, with the service stated on the page.

The process

Start with the application at /apply and say which model you run: a research-use catalog, a clinic, or both. The claims and catalog review happens in analysis, before any bank sees the file. The four steps, from file to go-live, are described on /how-it-works.

FAQ

Peptide payment processing FAQ

Can I use Stripe or PayPal for peptides?

Sometimes, and only under conditions. As of October 2026, Stripe's FAQ says it supports many peptides: prescription-only ones need a pharmacy model and its prior approval, and research peptides need controls that keep non-research buyers out. Its list still prohibits incorrectly labeled research chemicals. PayPal's policy does not name peptides: it excludes steroids and products it judges a consumer-safety risk, and puts prescription items under prior approval. Shops and clinics that open an account without that approval get closed at a later review. OpenGate reads the catalog and the claims, then routes the file to acquirers that accept the model.

What does research-use-only mean for payments?

It means the product is labeled and sold for laboratory use, not human consumption, and the acquirer checks that the marketing holds that line. A catalog that stays research-use can be placed; one that drifts into dosing advice cannot. Labeling, buyer restrictions and the checkout's intended-use statement are where that line gets checked.

Can a longevity clinic get a merchant account?

Yes, when the file holds. Clinics are underwritten on a different file: provider licenses, prescribing workflow and compounding pharmacy records. That is a telehealth-adjacent model, and it goes to acquirers that underwrite healthcare billing.

What documents do I need for a peptide merchant account?

Corporate registration, the product catalog with labels and any certificates of analysis, your marketing pages for claims review, and for clinics the provider and pharmacy documentation. Processing history helps if you have it.

Why was my peptide merchant account closed?

Most often a claims problem or a bank policy change on research chemicals. Send the closure notice and your statements; we read what the site actually says and tell you whether the file can be placed. Claims can be fixed before a resubmission; a bank's policy cannot.

Can I get a merchant account to sell SARMs?

Only inside the research-use rules that apply in your market, with labeling that holds that line, and only where an acquirer's program accepts the compounds. Models with human-use claims or enforcement history are declined with reasons.

What reserve should I expect?

A rolling reserve is typical for the category, sized to dispute history and subscription exposure, released in slices as chargeback windows close. The schedule is written into the offer. Research-only catalogs with low dispute history typically negotiate smaller reserves than clinic memberships with recurring exposure.

How long does onboarding take?

A complete peptide or clinic file can go from first review to go-live in as little as two weeks. Claims cleanup is the usual delay, and the underwriter flags it within 1 business day.

Can I run a membership or refill program?

Yes. Recurring billing is underwritten like any continuity model: consent capture, renewal disclosure and a working cancellation flow, with card-on-file billing and consultation records kept for disputes.

Can I sell both research peptides and clinic services?

Not in one blended funnel. The two models carry different legal duties, so they are underwritten as separate files and often place with different acquirers. Mixing research labeling with clinical marketing is the fastest way to a decline.
